Beautiful Soul – This song came about while flying back to California after a visit with my family in Kentucky. I remember the plane landing and thinking – could I let this (California) be my home? The struggles of trying to figure it all out , do it all “in the right way” Of trying to keep up and not become overwhelmed with our non-stop, do it all culture, those heavy times when you need someone to just say “come over here, take a break, everything’s fine, you are fine.” This arrangement was from an early first rehearsal of the song when Rik was playing these swirling/rolling guitar lines throughout the song – we decided to go with this idea for the recording. Also adding the deep, earthy harmonies of Denise Funari (Yard Sale) made it all complete – it came out more beautiful than I ever expected. I love this one.
